Matheus Xavier Wins School Heat of the 3 Minute Thesis

Matheus from the Precision Mechatronics Lab wins the school heat at the University of Newcastle of the 2021 3 Minute Thesis Competition.

With his talk titled “Soft Medical Robots: A Bioinspired Revolution” – Matheus inspired the audience with this rapidly growing field in robotics. Not only are these new types of robots elastically deformable, they also follow a bioinspired design to achieve tasks like moving up an blood vessel through multidirectional bending, elongation and squeezing.

His research interests include the control, estimation and self-sensing of microelectromechanical (MEMS) systems such as piezoelectric microcantilever and nanopositioning systems for multifrequency and single-chip atomic force microscopy.
